Seven days is exactly enough time to experience Turkey's three most iconic regions without feeling rushed. This is the itinerary we at Royal Turkish Travel have been recommending — and refining — for nearly two decades. It works for first-time visitors, couples, families, and small groups.
The classic route combines Istanbul (Ottoman and Byzantine heritage), Cappadocia (otherworldly volcanic landscapes and cave hotels), and Pamukkale (white thermal terraces and Roman ruins). These three destinations are all UNESCO World Heritage Sites or candidates, covering the major themes that draw travellers to Turkey: history, natural wonder, and wellness.
This 7-day itinerary works best arriving into Istanbul (IST) and departing from İzmir — avoiding a backtrack. Ask us about one-way car hire or transfer options.
Give Istanbul three full days minimum. The city is enormous — 15 million people, 14 centuries of imperial history, and enough food, art, and architecture to fill a month.
Build 2 nights in Cappadocia so you have a backup morning if the first flight is cancelled due to wind. Book only SHGM-licensed operators.
April–May and September–October: warm, manageable crowds, best balloon completion rates. July–August is hot (32°C) but fully operational. December–February: snow in Cappadocia is magical.

You will not see everything, but you will leave with a strong sense of the country's history, landscapes, and culture.
Domestic flights are the fastest option for longer distances — Turkish Airlines and Pegasus connect Istanbul with Cappadocia (Kayseri), Antalya, and İzmir in under 90 minutes. Overnight buses are comfortable and affordable for trips like Istanbul–Cappadocia or Istanbul–Antalya. Renting a car works well on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.
April–May and September–October are ideal — mild weather (18–24°C), lower crowds, and good light for photography. Summer (July–August) is hot but all sites are open. Winter travel is possible but some Cappadocia hot air balloon flights are cancelled in poor weather.
Both work well. Independent travel is easy with good transport links and English signage at major sites. A private guide adds depth — especially at Ephesus, the Valley of the Churches in Cappadocia, and the historical sites of Istanbul. A local agency can also handle logistics so you focus on the experience.
Budget travellers can manage on €60–80/day (hostel, local food, public transport). Mid-range travellers should budget €150–200/day (3-star hotel, sit-down restaurants, guided tours). Luxury travel with private guides and 5-star hotels starts from €400/day. Flights to Istanbul are often the largest single cost.
